San Prospero (Mo), November 21, 2022. Mortadella Favola Gran Riserva from Salumificio Mec Palmieri has confirmed its status as Italy’s Best Mortadella by winning the Cinque Spilli, the top score awarded by the Salumi d’Italia 2023 Guide. Yet another great achievement for the company from San Prospero (Mo), which has been mentioned with an award in every edition of the guidebook since 2017. The awards ceremony for the best producers of Italian cured meats took place on November 14 in the splendid setting of the Teatro Verdi in Busseto (PR), where Sabatino Sorrentino, the guide’s historic editor, united the world of cured meat with the world of art.
Mortadella Favola Gran Riserva is a product of unique excellence, standing out for its unmistakable fire stamp and characteristic handmade binding with rope in three colors. Stuffed into the thin, natural rind and cooked slowly in stone ovens, the mortadella is made of only the finest Italian meats, abounding in noble cuts of 100% Italian pork. Additional ingredients contributing to the uniqueness and enhancing the special flavor of Mortadella Favola Gran Riserva include sweet whole sea salt from the salt flats of Cervia, natural flavorings and acacia honey.
“We are honored to receive the Best Mortadella of Italy award from the Salumi d’Italia Guide, a prestigious recognition that we have already had the pleasure of obtaining in several previous editions,” comments Francesco Palmieri, managing director of Salumificio Mec Palmieri and representative of the company’s fourth generation of entrepreneurs. “This important achievement rewards the commitment and passion that our people put into their daily work, carried out by combining the tradition of an industrious and visionary family with the desire to offer innovative high-quality products.”

Salumificio Mec Palmieri
Salumificio Palmieri is recognized in Italian and foreign markets as a landmark brand in the production of quality mortadella and traditional precooked products such as zampone, cotechino and stinco. The company’s history began in 1919 in the heart of Modena, where Emilio Palmieri opened a delicatessen selling quality artisanal cured meats. His son Carlo moved to lower Modena area in 1961, starting his artisanal production of mortadella, salami, pork crackling, pancetta and coppa. In the early 1990s the plant specialized in the production of high-quality mortadella. The company now has an all-new state-of-the-art plant constructed following the earthquake that hit Emilia-Romagna in 2012, with the capacity to process more than 200 tons of meat per week, from raw material to finished product. It is the leading maker of over-the-counter mortadella, sold under the Favola brand.
